I had a weekend getaway to Dullstroom coming up and the weather wasn’t looking very warm – single digits was what my weather app was showing me! I definitely needed a beanie to keep my ears and head warm (hmmm… And maybe a cool new winter accessory too 😉 )
After searching ravelry.com I found a slouchy beanie free crochet pattern by Vickie Howell. I decided to use some leftover yarn from another project and a 5mm (H) hook as specified in the pattern.
Overall, I thought the pattern was really easy to follow, but I did struggle with the puff stitch in the beginning. My tension was too tight which made it hard for me to pull my hook through all stitches without catching strands of yarn, once I figured that out it was a-ok!
Some serious after hours crocheting went into completing this beanie on time but I managed to finish it by midnight the night before leaving – not because it was a difficult pattern but because I have silly habit of being a perfectionist- I tend to pull projects out and start them over! If not for this silly habit, I probably would’ve finished it in two evenings instead of four!
I had so much fun making my slouchy beanie and super chuffed with how it turned out.
Think you should give it a go, here’s the link. Plus, the pattern is FREE 😀
